Annual Report 2024
Activities
We held an in person meeting at the ASM where we held a discussion about methods and approaches of involving people marginalised or vulnerable groups this co-hosted by Halle Johnson, the lead for PPI for the NIHR School for Primary Care Research. RM also had a lot of conversations with people throughout the conference who had wanted to attend and were interested in the topic but had not been able to because of wanting to attend multiple SIG meetings although the feedback of having a focused discussion around a topic was good. We plan to hold a similar format for the ASM in 2025 and hope to promote earlier so that more people are aware of the SIG.
Future Plans
Following the ASM we have been developing a virtual session linking with School for Primary Care PPI leads group to network and share experiences of what has worked well, challenges, and ways to overcome them to help to continue the critical development of approaches to public involvement and participatory research. We also aim to invite members to attend the annual SIG Meeting at the ASM to build on these discussions and discussions with the national SPCR PPI lead where we hope to host another joint meeting.
Evidence of impact of the SIG
The SIG's impact centres on promoting critical debate around participatory research and PPI to advance the science of involvement and participatory research. We have previously discussed this with academics in Denmark, the US, and Norway.
Outcomes from the SIG meeting at the last SAPC ASM
Prompting discussion and sharing of experiences among attendees and wider discussion with conference delegates. We also discussed how to make the conference more public contributor-friendly.
How affiliation with SAPC has helped the SIG
Hosting the meeting at the ASM gives a central space to share experiences and raise the profile of participatory research and ppi.
