Teaching - Near Peer Teaching in Primary Care

Aim:

To provide opportunities for networking and collaboration amongst individuals from across undergraduate and postgraduate institutions who are passionate about promoting near-peer teaching in primary care settings.

Objectives

  • to facilitate cross-institution and cross-spectrum (undergraduate and postgraduate) discussions and collaborations
  • to share experiences, models and innovations amongst members to create opportunities for doctors in training in primary care (GPST/ FY) to develop their teaching role with junior learners (e.g. medical students, other HCP students)
  • to create collaborative networks within the SIG that can contribute  to the academic literature in this field
  • to utilise SIG outputs to feed into key stakeholder organisations such as HEE and RCGP

Activities in 2020

This newly formed SIG has brought together almost 50 members from over 20 institutions interested in promoting near-peer teaching within primary care. We held a successful first virtual meeting in September 2020 allowing members to discuss work they were doing in this field and from this created an online repository of supporting literature and shared project resources. Our next virtual meeting, scheduled for January 2021, will focus on ideas for scholarly collaborations with the SIG. We have a mailing list set up to help facilitate communication between members.
