Annual Report 2024
Activities We are a new special interest group, created in Spring of 2024. After an initial online meeting, we had our inaugural hybrid meeting at the SAPC ASM in Bristol in 2024. Attendees included representatives from different academic primary care units, Kidney Care UK and Kidney Research UK.
Future Plans
We currently have 9 members and continue to grow. We are actively seeking new members. We are developing a quarterly newsletter which members contribute to, this allows us to keep abreast of developments within the field and promote the successes of our members.
We are hoping to organise a networking event and are collaborating with the UK Kidney Association to develop an annual or bi-annual event with stakeholders working in the primary care space. We hope this will foster regional and national collaboration towards agreed research recommendations.
Evidence of impact of the SIG
SIG members have collaborated on presentations, abstracts and publications. Kidney Care and Kidney Research UK in particular have been very keen to work with the SIG to ensure our work is promoted and our research is translated into practice. We have a forum to present at UK Kidney Week in 2025, through an invited session. We have also submitted abstracts.
Outcomes from SIG meeting at last SAPC ASM
Established our membership, defined objectives and created TOR.
Laiased with the CKD and AKI SIGs at UKKA to determine SAPC input to national research objectives for kidney disease in primary care.
How affiliation with SAPC has helped the SIG
The affiliation with SAPC has given us a platform for primary care research to be recognised as an essential part of integrated service design and evaluation for care of patients with kidney disease - the majority of whom are looked after in primary care. It has allowed us to develop a working relationship with UKKA, and to start to build relationships with the PCDS and PCCS.
