Annual Report 2024
Activities
Over the past 12 months our SIG membership has stayed quite stable. We currently have 76 members and 233 followers on twitter (@SAPCexerciseSIG). I use our twitter handle to keep in regular contact with the members, promote the SIG and share relevant research and initiatives. However, I plan to take some time to migrate over to Bluesky early this year. I also keep in contact with the SIG members via email to update them of plans and events associated with the SIG.
Future Plans
I aim to hold the next meeting for the SIG at the next SAPC AGM in 2025 and I am currently looking at guest speakers. I also aim to continue to develop further collaborations with SIG member to build the portfolio of research linked to the SIG.
Evidence of impact of the SIG
Overall, feedback of the meetings held to date have been very positive. We hope that there will be long term impact of the Physical Activity as Medicine SIG, through promoting member collaboration and for improving communication regarding physical activity within primary care. As a result of the SIG activities, I have been invited to collaborate with other members of the SIG on a successful SPCR grant proposal which involves colleagues from Keele University, Exeter University, the University of Dundee, Parkrun and the RCGP. I am also supervising a successful SPCR Post-doctoral Fellowship for an ECR member of the SIG (start date October 2024), which is focused on physical activity in Primary Care.
Outcomes from SIG meeting at last SAPC ASM
We held our last face to face SIG meeting at the SAPC AGM in July 2024, which was attended by six individuals, two of which also signed up as new members. At the meeting, Dr Callum Leese (Academic GP from the University of Dundee Medical School) gave a presentation titled ‘‘The Movement Prescription’: embracing the new face of medical education https://www.buzzsprout.com/2242437’. This presentation prompted an interesting and informative discussion.
How affiliation with SAPC has helped the SIG
I think it gives the group more credibility and it helps SAPC members to identify other individuals / groups with similar research interests.
