Annual Report 2024
Activities
The SIG continues to hold termly online meetings up to 90 minutes long, comprising a number of relevant presentations, mainly from members. These provide an opportunity to present recent research, as well as seek feedback from colleagues on new proposals and projects. Meetings usually are attended by about 10 people, of varying seniority, and with a range of methodological and topic expertise. An in-person meeting was held at the ASM.
Various members of the SIG have ongoing contact with a range of external stakeholders working in the field of pharmacy and medicines optimisation. This has included continued engagement around growing academic careers and research capacity within pharmacy (e.g. NHSE, CPhO Pharmacy Research Advisory Group), and ongoing work to develop clinical pharmacology as a sub-speciality within primary care. We maintain a memorandum of understanding with the College of Mental Health Pharmacy.
Future Plans
We will maintain our current activity, and support SAPC to grow its pharmacy membership and other professions e.g., nursing. This will include supporting a workshop around non-medical clinical careers at the next ASM.
Evidence of impact of the SIG
This is reflected in ongoing activities described above.
Outcomes from SIG meeting at last SAPC ASM
The meeting at the ASM has attended by about eight members some face-to-face and some online. Members discussed their individual research projects and obtained advice as appropriate, for example on recruitment in community pharmacy. Members also meet up outside of the formal SIG at the ASM to obtain advice and support. How affiliation with SAPC has helped the SIG The affiliation of the SIG to SAPC helps provide credibility to the group, as well as improving its visibility, and recognition by external stakeholders.
