Information and how to submit
Just as I valued being able to present my work abroad (at SAPC), I thought others in the SAPC community might want to do the same thing by presenting here in Canada. I am a Canadian family physician researcher who has presented at SAPC twice - once as the 2011 SAPC/NAPCRG Travel Prize Recipient (“Nocturnal leg cramps and prescriptions that precede them”) and again in 2014 when I chose to submit another research presentation.
Family Medicine Forum (Nov 8-11, 2017 in Montreal, Quebec) is the annual scientific meeting of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and Canada’s largest and most comprehensive primary care conference. You can read about it on our website. The first day is research and teaching specific, and the remaining 3 days has a clinical / continuing medical education focus. I am involved in the planning committee now and I thought that there might be some value in letting the members of SAPC know that we would like to encourage their research submissions (Deadline to submit oral presentations and posters = April 8th 2017).
The top 4 submitted oral presentations (as independently ranked by 3 primary care researchers and clinicians) are chosen for distinguished plenary presentation on Nov 8. I highlight that recognizing that an international distinguished plenary presentation would be valuable to most early career investigators and might make it worth the consideration of SAPC members submitting to Family Medicine Forum.
If you are interested in sending an e-maili to your members letting them know that we encourage their submissions, that would be welcome. I completely understand if you are not set up to do this or are not wanting to burden your membership with additional e-mails…but thought I would share the opportunity, as our research committee uniformly agrees we would be keen to see international presenters attend, and be recognized for high calibre work by including them in the running for the distinguished papers.
