2017 report on behalf of the SAPC SIG Sexual and Reproductive Health

The Sexual and Reproductive Health Special Interest Group (SRH SIG) was approved by the SAPC Executive in November 2016.

To date, we have just over 25 members from a variety of backgrounds including: GPs, consultants, epidemiologists, qualitative researchers; career grades from PhD students to professors; and from different countries including: UK, Canada and Australia.

We had our inaugural meeting on Wednesday 12th July 2017 at the SAPC Annual Scientific Meeting in Warwick. Workshop attendees included: Mr Michael Toze (University of Lincoln), Dr Rebecca Mawson (University of Sheffield), Dr Richard Ma (Imperial College London), Dr Wendy Norman (College of Family Physicians of Canada), Dr Jeremy Horwood (University of Bristol) and Professor John Macleod (University of Bristol). We discussed and agreed on the objectives of the group, the future direction as well as group membership.

Our first task is to create a platform whereby we can post research that is relevant to our brief. I took on this task as group founder and chair. We now have a website using Wordpress which has was launched on 28th December 2017.  Within two days of its launch, it has attracted a total of over 160 views from different countries including: UK, Australia, US as well as other European countries (including Switzerland, Hungary, Sweden, Italy and Netherlands).

I also attended WONCA Europe this year and helped organise a workshop on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH). A group of us is forming a special interest group in SRH and this will be launched at WONCA Europe 2018 in Krakow.

Our plan in 2018 is to forge links with the WONCA SRH group to promote excellence and capacity in SRH research across Europe and beyond. We also hope the website will gather momentum in the following year, with blog posts on SRH research relevant for primary care from different contributors.
