Chew-Graham is a General Pactitioner and Professor of General Practice Research at Keele University. Her areas of interest and expertise include the primary care (including in prisons) management of people with mental health problems, multiple health conditions and unexplained symptoms, and the mental health and wellbeing of clinicians. Patient and Public Involvement is key to all her research.

She chairs the RCGP ‘Research Paper of the Year’ panel.  Carolyn was awarded an OBE for services to general practice and primary care research, including research into Long Covid, in the King’s Inaugural Birthday Honours List, June 2023.

We have decided to hold our 2022 ASM in person and are grateful to our hosts at UCLan, led by Professor Umesh Chauhan.  Please hold the dates (4th – 6th July 2022).  Abstract submission is open and the abstract deadline is Monday 14th February.

SAPC Executive - Elections 2021

In 2021, we will be holding an election for four general member places on SAPC Executive, to serve from July 2021-2024.  In addition we are seeking nominations for a vice-chair who will serve from July 2021-2022 and will become chair in 2022 (until 2025).

Reflections on a wonderful Annual Scientific Meeting

As incoming Chair of SAPC, I would like to reflect on what was a very successful ASM in Exeter. Thank you to Professors John Campbell, Jose Valderas, Willie Hamilton and their organising team for putting on a great event in glorious surroundings – and the sun helped!

Career Support

SAPC has instigated a number of initiatves to support the careers of primary care academics involved in education and/or research. We have groups dedicated to supporting the needs of academic GPs, non-clinical members (Primary Healthcare Scientists - PHoCuS members), Early Career Academics, We run career development workshops, a mentorship scheme, as well as offering a range of prizes. The SAPC Ambassador role is relatively recent and offers opportunities for people to join the work we are doing whilst developing new skills and career opportunities.
