Tom Kallis is a clinical pharmacist and senior research fellow at the University of Exeter. He is a qualitative researcher and conversation analyst, with expertise in the use of observational methods to understand how pharmacists and patients communicate with each other in health encounters. His PhD explored how general practice-based pharmacists handle clinical uncertainty in the context of complex polypharmacy. Alongside his academic role, he maintains his clinical practice for a day a week at Tamar Valley Health GP Surgery in Callington, Cornwall. Tom is an editorial board member for the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and an expert advisor on primary care to the Royal College of Pharmacy. He is interested in communication in primary care encounters, clinical decision making, organisational cultures in healthcare, medicines optimisation and the evolving role of pharmacists in primary care.
