Thank you to everyone who submitted abstracts for the SAPC Mental Health Special Interest Group Primary Care Conference 2026. We were delighted with the quality and breadth of submissions, and we are now in the final stages of confirming what promises to be a rich and engaging programme. Hosted by the University of Nottingham in partnership with the Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) and supported by the NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration (MH-TRC)
To remind you the theme for this year's event is "Providing better care for underserved communities in primary care mental health"
The conference will feature a series of parallel oral abstract presentation sessions organised across four themed rooms. Each room will include two sessions structured around focused sub-themes, showcasing current research, innovation, and practice in primary care mental health:

- Suicide Risk and Barriers to Care
- Stigma, Identity and Cultural Access
- Service Innovation and System Integration
- New Models of Support & Delivery
- Building Accessible Mental Health Systems
- Complex Needs and Long-Term Mental Health Conditions
- Depression, Discontinuation and Ongoing Care
- Comorbidity, Prevention and Prescribing
- Therapeutic Approaches and Workforce Capability
- Therapy Development and Delivery
- Digital Interventions and Workforce Practice
We are also delighted to confirm our keynote address:
Lucy Selman, Professor of Palliative and End of Life Care in the School of Population Health Sciences, University of Bristol, will be leading a session on:
“The Coastal Community and Creative Health Project: Integrating Community Assets to Tackle Mental Health Inequalities”
In addition, the programme will include a multi-disciplinary panel discussion bringing together a range of perspectives from across the system:“Better mental healthcare for underserved communities – different perspectives and approaches?”
In addition to the Poster Abstract Presentations, this year there will also be an art exhibition: "Keys to Care for Better Mental Health"
This participatory exhibition invites attendees to engage with creative expressions of lived experience in mental health, particularly from underserved communities. The exhibition is curated by Professor Heike Bartel [ Hungry for Words: Creative approaches to shape healthcare and address health inequalities - The University of Nottingham], whose work sits at the intersection of literature, film, art and health. It brings together a range of multimedia pieces exploring themes such as resilience, identity, culture and ethnicity as well as food insecurity and experiences of care.
Together, we will explore how we can better support underserved communities within primary care mental health.
