Dr Shoba Dawson

Shoba Dawson is a Senior Research Fellow in Inclusive Research at the University of Sheffield. She holds an honorary Research Fellow role at the University of Bristol. She is a methodologist with expertise in evidence synthesis, patient and public involvement and engagement, and research inclusion. Shoba co-leads the GPs at the Deep End Bristol initiative, which focuses on addressing health inequities, and the Trial Forge Inclusive Research Centre (Sheffield), which aims to strengthen the evidence base for methodological approaches that enhance inclusivity in trials. 

Shoba’s research focuses on advancing equity and diversity in primary care research, with a particular emphasis on developing inclusive methodologies in the UK. She currently co-leads two NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) funded projects: 1) prescription medication sharing and 2) improving communication about menopause in South Asian women. She is part of the NIHR SPCR EDI Strategy Development Group. Internationally, Shoba served on the Recommendations for Interventional Trials for Inclusivity, Diversity, Ethnicity and Race (RECONSIDER) advisory group, contributing to the development of key methodological and reporting guidelines for improving ethnic diversity in trials globally. She was awarded the Royal College of General Practitioners and Society of Academic Primary Care Outstanding Primary Care Scientist Award in 2021. 

Currently, she supervises PhD students and MSc students in Clinical research and mentors primary care clinicians. She co-leads a short course on inclusivity within research processes in Bristol.
