Barbara graduated from University College Dublin with an MSocSC in the Sociology of Health and Illness.  She worked as a research assistant in the Health Research and Information Division in the Economic and Social Research Institute before undertaking her PhD as part of the HRB PhD Scholar in Health Services Research at the Division of Population Health Sciences, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Her doctoral research focused on prescribing in older people in primary care.  The aim of this research was to conduct a cluster randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a multifaceted intervention in reducing potentially inappropriate prescribing.
