The Role
The post holder will provide high-quality statistical and epidemiological expertise in a multidisciplinary research study undertaken within the School of Medicine, with a specific focus on studies utilising electronic health record data. The post holder will be part of a team of methodologists and clinicians and work closely with the School’s Biostatistics team and the Keele Health and Care Data Research Network. In particular, the postholder will work in a team of health researchers to deliver a project funded by Muscular Dystrophy UK, using data from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink. Work will include processing very large routinely collected health care records, descriptive statistics, and projections.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Plan and carry out day-to-day research activities, including complex data handling and statistical analyses, independently using a variety of techniques within the framework of the agreed programme contributing to knowledge that supports Keele’s and the broader academic research community
- Develop research objectives and proposals for own and joint research.
- Develop new research methods and extend the research portfolio.
- Identify new areas of research and potential funding sources, contributing to the process of securing funds.
- Conduct individual and collaborative research using new techniques and methods as appropriate.
- Conduct literature reviews.
- Analyse and interpret results/data of own research and generate original ideas based on outcomes.
- Write up results of research findings and produce work for publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals of national or international standing.
- Coordinate, attend and contribute to relevant research meetings.
- Prepare papers for stakeholder/steering groups and other bodies.
- Present information on research progress and outcomes to bodies supervising research, e.g. steering groups.
- Assist in the development of student research skills.
- Undertake a programme of structured training around good clinical practice in clinical research including, as appropriate, research governance, information security etc.
- Follow and execute standard operating procedures, including Keele’s Health and Social Care Research Policy.
Team Work
- Participate as a member of the research team, including contributing to decisions affecting the work of the team and dealing with problems which may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines.
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multi-centre team to design and deliver research studies, resolve issues, learn new skills, and share expertise.
- Support, participate in and develop external networks to increase the external profile of the School and build relationships for collaborative working. ·
- Contribute fully to the research culture of the School through participation at seminars, internal and external workshops, study group meetings, journal clubs, research team meetings.
Communication
- Attend and contribute to project team meetings.
- Communicate effectively across a wide range of audiences.
- Liaise, establish and maintain positive links with external agencies and providers.
- Adhere to regulations and procedures relating to data protection and information security.
Supervision / Staffing
- Assist with the supervision of student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level as required.
- Provide technical assistance and supervision to members of the research team as required
