Dr Ruth Cordiner

Dr Ruth Cordiner
SAPC Role
ASM 2026 Committee Member

Ruth Cordiner is an academic GP and Clinical Lecturer at the University of St Andrews. She began her clinical career in speciality training in diabetes and endocrinology in the West of Scotland and was appointed Chief Resident for the Department of Medicine at Glasgow Royal Infirmary 2016-18. She completed her PhD with the University of Dundee with research funded by the Wellcome Trust with a thesis entitled “Modernising the Use of Sulphonylureas in Type 2 Diabetes”. This work involved two clinical trials involving human physiology studies with intensive phenotyping, complex physiology, genomics and beta cell modelling. Ruth also undertook complex analyses with population level data. She remains an Associate Researcher with The University of Dundee.

Ruth transferred to become a general practitioner as she recognises the fundamental role that primary care must play to bridge the translational gap between clinical practice and research and provide a valuable platform for education and research for our future clinicians.
