Co-Chairs: Ian Bennett-Britton, Peter Edwards & Andrew Carson-Stevens
Aims of the QASI SIG:
Networks - To establish a network of SAPC researchers interested in patient safety and quality improvement research, facilitate communication amongst SIG members to enhance collaboration, minimise duplication and support dissemination of findings.
Knowledge - To highlight and appraise developments in primary care quality and safety research.
Research - To support development of high-quality patient safety and quality improvement research.
Impact - To facilitate the integration of primary care quality and safety research into patient care
External Activities:
We established the Quality and Safety Improvement (QASI) Special Interest Group (SIG) in October 2021. We have created a group Twitter profile and have started an open group membership directory.
We had our inaugural members meeting on 4/7/22 at SAPC ASM in Preston. We used this meeting to facilitate networking and ask those present what they would value from the QASI SIG
We sent out our first Newsletter in November 2022. This summarised the feedback from our 04/7/22 meeting, gave a link to our membership directory, highlighted recent publications by our members or those relevant to the field, and relevant job opportunities.
Internal Activities:
As a QASI SIG team we have met approximately monthly to discuss the various aspects of developing the QASI SIG. We met with the leaders of the Prescribing and Medication Optimisation SIG on 15/02/22 to discuss where our groups may be able to collaborate in future and representatives of the WONCA Working Party on Quality & Safety on 06/04/22 consider how we might develop to support wider initiatives in future.
Future Plans:
We plan to have our next QASI members meeting online w/c 27/02/22. This will entail a relatively informal discussion with a senior primary care quality and safety academic, and give members the opportunity to present their research ideas in a supportive environment.
We plan to publish one further Newsletter after our 27/02/22 meeting prior to our SAPC ASM meeting in Brighton in July 2023.
We aim to build the QASI SIG in the coming years with an emphasis on building a supportive network for developing and established researchers in this field.
