Activities

Over the past 12 months our SIG membership has continued to grow. We currently have 57 members and 177 followers on twitter (@SAPCexerciseSIG). We use our twitter handle to keep in regular contact with the members, promote the SIG and share relevant research and initiatives. also keep in contact with the SIG members via email to update them of plans and events associated with the SIG.

On the 17th of May 2021 we held a virtual live SIG meeting that was attended by 16 members. At the meeting novel research physical activity research and implementation activities were presented from three invited speakers:

Nefyn Williams, University of Liverpool: Developing a physical activity pathway for people with long-term conditions managed in primary care

Jude Taylor, Together Active: Introducing Active My Way – An Open Data enabled physical activity platform for health care professionals and their patients

Ashleigh Ahlquist, Versus Arthritis: ‘Let’s Move’ - Versus Arthritis Physical Activity Programme

We also had discussion around future potential SIG activities and collaboration activities.

Future plans

We aim to hold a second webinar for the SIG in spring 2022 and are currently looking at guest speakers. We also aim to hold a SIG meeting at the annual conference in the summer.

Evidence of impact of the SIG

Overall the evaluation of the webinar was very positive. We hope that there will be long-term impact of the Physical Activity Masterclass, through promoting member collaboration and for improving communication regarding physical activity within primary care consultations,

How affiliation with SAPC has helped the SIG

Affiliation with SAPC has helped us to identify and recruit members to the SIG who have a particular interest in the role of exercise / physical activity in primary care. I think being affiliated with SAPC provides further credentials to our Twitter account @SAPCexerciseSIG.
