SAPC Ambassadors
Institutions and ambassadors
SAPC represents institutions across the UK and Ireland, as shown on the map.
The table further down this page summarises key interests in the different institutions.
Each institution is represented by a SAPC Ambassador member, who act as a contact point for their department, and feed into the SAPC Executive team via the Ambassador leads to develop and deliver aspects of the Society’s work.
Becoming an ambassador
Becoming an SAPC Ambassador provides opportunities both to add to your skills and your CV, and to make a difference within the Academic Primary Care community. Ambassadors meet annually at the ASM, and 3-4 times throughout the year in remote meetings.
The role involves actively raising the profile of SAPC in your department (or organisation):
- Liaison between SAPC Executive, your organisation, and any external contacts seeking SAPC engagement
- Working with other ambassadors to inform and shape the work of SAPC
We will provide ambassadors with:
- An "open" chair to observe SAPC Executive meetings
- Resource packs to support you in raising awareness of SAPC and supporting recruitment
- Access to a directory of SAPC members
- Support from the SAPC Executive
- Peer support with a network of SAPC Ambassadors
For more information, contact office@sapc.ac.uk.

How are we organised?
The work of SAPC is led by the Executive team, comprising elected or co-opted members from across the academic primary care community. The Executive is supported by the Heads of Departments group (HoDs), providing representation from all UK and Ireland departments of academic primary care, and the Heads of Teaching group (HoTs), which oversees the strategic delivery of undergraduate primary care education in UK medical schools. Administrative work is undertaken by the SAPC Secretariat. SAPC is a membership organisation, registered in England as an incorporated company.
Lead ambassadors
Dr Jess Drinkwater (Manchester) and Dr Umar Chaudhry (St George’s) took on the sharing of the Ambassador lead role in March 2022. They sit on the SAPC Executive committee.
