Dr Sophie Park
Dr Sophie Park is a GP and Senior Lecturer in primary care at UCL Medical School. Sophie has two roles with SAPC; she is a member of the SAPC early careers working group, which works to ensure that SAPC addresses the challenges facing early career academics in primary care. Sophie is also Chair of the SAPC special interest group for Education Research.
Sophie is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Co-Director of the London BICC (Best Evidence in Medical Education International Collaboration Centre). She was awarded a Highly Commended for the Yvonne Carter Award in 2015 for her innovative work in developing a distinct body of educational research in primary care. Sophie has conducted a range of research projects, which examine general practice medical education. These include an NIHR funded BEME systematic review of medical education in the UK general practice setting, and a range of qualitative and sociological studies examining the process of learning in undergraduate and postgraduate primary care settings (funders include the NIHR, HENCEL, Royal College of General Practice Scientific Fund and the Institute of Education and UCL collaboration fund). Ongoing projects include researching and developing a national resource for patients participating in general practice teaching encounters; and examining the supervision and process of decision-making by junior doctors in an A+E setting.
