Congratulations to Professor Amanda Howe, University of East Anglia, who will be the next President of the Royal College of General Practitioners, taking over from Professor Mayur Lakhani in November 2019. Amanda is the immediate past-President of the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA) and is also an ex-Chair of SAPC. She is head of the Primary Care Group at UEA, and a lead within the MED Department of Primary Care and Public Health.

We are delighted to announce that Professor Paul Little, from the University of Southampton, is this year's recipient of the RCGP's Discovery Award. This is one of the College's most prestigious awards, given in recognition of outstanding research in general practice.

Congratulations to Professor Deborah Swinglehust of Queen Mary University of London, who is this year's recipient of the RCGP John  Fry Award. This award recognises a Member or Fellow of the College who has promoted the discipline of general practice through research and publishing, with SAPC making the award recommendation to the College.

SAPC and RCGP are delighted to announce that Dr Emma Wallace is the winner of this year's Yvonne Carter Award for Outstanding Early Career Researcher. 

Emma will be giving a presentation around her key research interest entitled "Characterising older community-dwelling people at higher risk of experiencing adverse health outcomes" at SAPC's annual conference this year at the University of Exeter on the morning of Thursday 4th July. 

Many congratulations to the SAPC members awarded, or re-awarded, NIHR Senior Investigator Awards: Jonathan Mant (Cambridge); Kamlesh Khunti (Leicester); Alastair Hay (Bristol); and Richard McManus (Oxford).  This is a fantastic achievement and we are very pleased and proud. 

We are delighted that Professor Richard Hobbs, University of Oxford and Director of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, is the recipient of the 2018 Discovery Prize. This award recognises outstanding research in general practice, which has health care and the wellbeing of patients. Many congratulations from all at SAPC.
