Three NIHR Research Schools' Mental Health Programme Seminar Series
The Homes for Ukraine cliff-edge: Ukrainian women's experiences being hosted and navigating follow-on accommodation
Tuesday 18 November 2025
12:00 – 1:00 PM (Online)
Join us for an insightful seminar led by Maureen Seguin who is an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her research focuses on the link between housing and mental health amongst marginalised populations, including refugees in England. She has recently conducted projects with forcibly displaced Ukrainian women in England.
The presentation will focus on the Homes for Ukraine program which was lauded as a generous initiative aimed at welcoming Ukrainian refugees into the homes of British people. However, there was a lack of planning to ensure this marginalised group could access longer-term accommodation once initial arrangements with hosts ended. This presentation draws on qualitative data to illustrate the range of experiences Ukrainian refugee women had on being hosted, and how they coped with finding longer-term housing arrangements within the context of a national housing crisis.
Whether you're a healthcare professional, researcher, or simply interested in mental health and inclusive research practices, this seminar is for you.
