Researcher and Medical Statistician, Oxford
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a postdoctoral researcher to join the new Stratified Medicines Research Group within the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences.
You will work under the supervision of Dr James Sheppard, on projects to develop risk prediction tools for the harms of cardiovascular prevention medications such as antihypertensives and statins. Initial projects will involve:
a) the use of large primary care datasets such as the CPRD to develop risk prediction models for the risk of adverse events associated with blood pressure lowering therapy;
b) using routine data to examine the association between treatment and side effects using causal inference techniques;
c) undertaking systematic reviews using meta-analysis to combine data from previous clinical trials examining the association between treatment and side effects.
Working with the department statistics group and the Stratified Medicines Research Group, you will also contribute towards the broader activities of the statistics group, for example to support the postgraduate teaching programme in Evidence-Based Health Care and to engage in other collaborative research projects.
You will hold (or be close to completing) a relevant PhD/DPhil or, exceptionally, have equivalent experience, evidenced by a strong publication record. You will be familiar with statistical modelling methods, such as logistic and/or Cox regression, and have the ability to undertake a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. Experience of writing and contributing data analysis for scientific publication is essential.
The post is full-time, fixed-term for 3 years in the first instance, with potential to extend.
