CHSS is one of three research centres within the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research at the University of Kent. We have close links with our colleagues in the other two centres, PSSRU and the Tizard Centre.

91% of Keele’s research in Primary Care has been judged world leading or internationally excellent by the Public Health, Health Services Research, and Primary Care assessment panel of the 2014 Universities UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF).  On the basis of World Leading or Internationally Excellent research (3* and 4*), Keele is ranked 3rd nationally.

We are a young (established 1997) and vibrant discipline which has quickly grown into the largest such discipline on the island of Ireland. We undertake nationally and internationally acclaimed teaching and research which we hope contributes to the care that you receive from your local general practitioner.

An interdisciplinary research hub, the Centre for Population Health Sciences (CPHS) draws together researchers, clinicians and practitioners from public health, primary care, biomedical and social sciences with expertise in epidemiology, statistics and modelling, sociology, social policy, psychology, economics, geography, health promotion, nursing and medicine.
