Yvonne Carter award for outstanding early career researcher announcement

We are delighted to announce that this year's winner is Dr Sarah Mitchell.

The judges were very impressed with her focus on palliative care and end of life care as well as strong leadership in this area.

Dr Mitchell is a GP at the White House Surgery in Sheffield and works at the University of Sheffield as a Yorkshire Cancer Research Senior Research Fellow. She recently gained her PhD, a realist inquiry into palliative care for children, at the University of Warwick. Her interests are paediatric and primary palliative care, the management of complexity and multi-morbidity, and medical ethics.

Alongside clinical practice and research, Sarah has held a range of regional and national policy roles, is currently Clinical Director for Palliative and End of Life Care at Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group and is the GP executive committee member of the Association of Paediatric Palliative Medicine.

To commemorate Yvonne Carter's contribution to primary care research the Royal College of General Practitioners, through its Scientific Foundation Board, and the Society for Academic Primary Care have jointly instituted the Yvonne Carter Award for Outstanding Early Career Researcher.
